Some writers think that after they publish a book, that it will sell on their own but that's far from the truth.


You need a plan, a strategy to sell your books.One of the strategies to consider is SEO. This is a great strategy to tie into an author's website or blog.


What is SEO?


Search engine optimization (SEO) is a process by which you can improve the visibility of your website or blog in search engine results pages. By optimizing your site for relevant keywords, you can attract more visitors who are looking for information about your book.

SEO keywords are simply the words or phrases that people type into a search engine when they are looking for information. By including these keywords in your site content, you can make it easier for people to find your book when they are searching online.


For example, if you wrote a book about relationships, you want to use certain words or phrases that people would search for. When I went to Google and typed in 'relationshsips' the following phrases generated as Google search box;


  • How to have healthy relationships

  • How to have casual relationships

  • How to have healthy relationships

  • Are long distance relationships worth it

  • Are breaks good for relationships

  • Are open relationships healthy



These are all phrases that people have tped into Google and are looking for answers. By using these phrases in the content of your website and blog will help you rank on Google. Of course you only want to use the phrases or word that relate to your book.

How do you choose SEO keywords?

Once you have selected some SEO keywords, you can start incorporating them into your site content. This includes your book's title, description, and keywords on your website or blog. You can also use SEO keywords in your book marketing materials, such as press releases and social media posts.


When you write your SEO content, please make sure to keep it "natural." Write how you usually would and not just to have certain keywords in your content. You don't want your content to seem robotic. At first, Google may love it because it has specific keywords, but as people come to your site and don't stay long on it, your strategy can backfire. It would be best to focus on writing what your audience is looking for. You can't "trick" the algorithm, especially when they switch it up ever so often.


How to get your website to rank with Google?


If you want your website to rank higher in Google search results, there are a few things you can do. One is to make sure your site is optimized for mobile devices. More and more people are using their smartphones and tablets to search the internet, so your site must be easy to view on these devices.


Another thing you can do is to create fresh, original content on your site. This could include blog posts, articles, or even videos. Google loves new content, so the more you have, the better. You can also promote your website by guest blogging on other sites and including links back to your own.
