Turn Your Book Into a Course

Updated: May 30, 2023

As a published author, you have content that informs, educates, and inspires. One of the best ways to repurpose your content is to turn it into an online course. Online courses provide an incredible amount of value to your reader. It’s a way for them to engage with you and for you to dig deeper with them regarding your message. In addition to providing value to your reader, courses serve as an additional stream of income for the author. Imagine being able to offer a reader the opportunity to work with you “virtually.”

How to structure your course

It’s more to creating a course than just repurposing your content. With some arranging, you can create modules of content that can help teach or convey your message to your audience.

Courses don’t have to be long and drawn out. Keep it simple in bite-size content. People are busy and easily distracted, and you want to make your content easy to consume so you don’t lose their attention. Each course is different. Some material may take longer to cover but for the most part, keep videos around five to ten minutes long.

Keep your audience engaged

You want to make sure that you are engaging with your audience. You can do this through live Q&A. You can add interactive features such as quizzes, worksheets, checklists, and more. Adding interactive features adds value to your course and makes them feel like they are getting a lot of value for their investment.

Resources needed

When creating the content, don’t get so overworked on the type of camera used when recording your videos. If you have a quality camera on your phone or laptop, that should work perfectly fine. If video editing is needed, you can use software such as Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, or iMovie. You can create your worksheets and checklist in Canva.

Depending on its features, you can host your course on your website. But you can feel free to put your course on other platforms such as Skillshare or Udemy.

Determining the content of your course is much easier when you use your book as the framework. And creating a course doesn’t have to be overwhelming and time-consuming when you have a roadmap. If you want to turn your book’s content into a course, join the Content 2 Course boot camp, a 30-day boot camp where you will get everything you need to plan, create, & scale your online course!
